Former boxing champion Anthony Mundine has plans to resurrect his football career by returning to rugby league this year.
Mundine today said he would return to the game he last played in 2000 following his world title fight against Danish boxer Mikel Kessler in Sydney on May 11.
"I want to come back the same way I went out, as being the Man," Mundine told League Correspondent.
"You can call it the resurrection of the Man. I'm back baby."
Mundine said it was his wish to win an NRL premiership before reassessing his sporting future.
"I feel that I've got unfinished business in that area," he added.
"After the fight we want to come back and play this season.
"People are going to say 'he's talking this, he's talking that'. They can say what they want. We'll see what happens in June."
Mundine said it was not certain to return to bottom-placed St George Illawarra, the joint venture club he played 33 games for in 1999 and 2000.
"I want to talk to a few clubs to see where their vision's at, to see where their dedication's at and their desire to be the best," he said.
