The run home

Melbourne is just one win away from the NRL minor premiership after its come-from-behind 18-12 win over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

The Storm has now won a club record 11 consecutive matches while the Broncos have lost five on the trot. The second-placed Bulldogs have continued their momentum towards the finals, handing St George Illawarra their fifth straight loss, 26-10 at Telstra Stadium.

Premiers the Wests Tigers have slipped to second last on the table after their second golden point loss to Canberra of the season. Raiders halfback Todd Carney kicked a 40-metre field goal with seven seconds remaining in extra-time to secure a 19-18 win at Campbelltown Stadium and cement Canberra's spot in the eight.

Melbourne is on 40 points, the Bulldogs are 34 and Manly has moved to outright third on 28. Parramatta is in the top four, joined on 26 points by the Broncos, Newcastle, the Dragons and the Raiders.

South Sydney is the only side officially out of semi-final contention after a topsy-turvy round 23. Parramatta, Brisbane, Newcastle, St George Illawarra and Canberra round out the top eight - all on 26 points - and hold a four-point buffer.

The rest have a mathematical chance, although they would need other results to go their way in the remaining three rounds.
