Canberra forward and former New Zealand test player Tyran Smith has retired from rugby league.
A chronic neck injury has forced the backrower to end a career which spanned 13 seasons, seven clubs and 188 first grade games.
Smith has been sidelined with the injury since the Raiders' 26-18 win over Parramatta in round 19.
He also has a bulging disc in his lower neck which has narrowed the space around his spinal cord.
"When I first injured my neck last year I was advised to consider retirement but I didn't think my time was finished and I wanted to keep going," Smith said.
"But I've re-injured it this year and its too risky to keep going."
