Thompson out for up to three
months

St George Illawarra's finals hopes have suffered another major blow with in-form captain Lance Thompson ruled out for the rest of the regular National Rugby League season.

Thompson limped off WIN Stadium last Saturday night with a fractured left foot that the Dragons medical staff initially thought would sideline him for four to six weeks. But further tests today revealed more extensive damage and he was not expected back on the paddock for up to three months. The sorry prognosis means the classy back rower, who's been the Dragons' best player this season, won't play again this year unless St George Illawarra make the playoffs.

The Dragons are currently running ninth.

The loss of Thompson follows the season-ending ankle injury to regular Dragons captain Trent Barrett last month.
