Titans beat Storm in dull contest

The Gold Coast Titans have claimed a comfortable 18-0 win over a depleted Storm outfit in wet conditions on the Gold Coast. The Titans led 12-0 at half time and were always in control.

In a match that will only assist calls to move Origin to a stand alone weekend, or at least sort out having byes before Origin instead of afterwards, both teams effectively traded errors for 80 minutes.

The Titans opened the scoring in the 5th minute with Brett Delaney crossing out wide with a huge overlap on. They extended their lead with a penalty goal on the 12th minute, and the scoring in the first half was completed with

Brad Meyers crossing in a similar fashion to Delaney.

The only scoring in the second half was a superb try to winger Ben Jeffrey, following a kick and chase he shrugged off Melbourne defenders and scored.

For their part, the Storm never threatened and had to defend for much of the game. Overall it was a very average match played in wet conditions and is a prime advertisement for those claiming something must be done about the loss of players to State of Origin camp. Be it putting State of Origin on a stand alone weekend or shifting the mass byes back to before Origin instead of afterwards, tonight showed that something has to be done.
