Titans upset Tigers in a tight one

Gold Coast Titans have caused a stir this afternoon with a surprise 16-14 win over Wests Tigers at Campbelltown.

In front of 13,451 people, Scott Prince and Anthony Laffranchi turned out against their old club where they were crowned Premiers in 2007.

It was a hard fought victory for the Titans who were missing regular players Luke Bailey and Preston Campbell before injuries at various stages further destabilised the club. Richie Mathers left the field early on, with Mat Rogers shifting to fullback. Jake Webster also departed just before the break, adding further to the Titans trouble.

The game began as most thought, with the Tigers opening the scoring through Paul Whatuira in the 10th minute. Rogers responded six minutes later to lock the scores up at 4-all with neither himself nor Dean Collis able to convert from difficult positions.

The Tigers then pushed ahead in the 22nd minute through boom rookie Chris Lawrence, who is beginning to warm to the five-eighth position in Benji Marshall
