Tonga bow out of the World Cup tournament in style

The Tongans most certainly saved their best for last in this World Cup tournament as they absolutely demolished a very tired and hot Scottish side this evening in a very humid Rockhampton, winning by an impressive 48-0.

It didn't taken long for a focused Tongan line-up to set the stage for what was to be an absolute whitewash.

Scotland were pinged early in the match by ref Shane Hayne for slowing down play around the ruck.

Five minutes into the match, and Tonga were in for their first of 8 unanswered tries in the game with Mateo showing his worth in the air.

Three minutes later as Paea runs rings around the defence to score.

It took Scotland 12 minutes to get to their second set of the match, and with ball in hand looked for the most, lethargic.

Two tries in the last ten minutes of the half had Tonga out to a very healthy 24-0 lead at halftime.

The second half was a continuation of the first half with the Scottish players tiring in the heat and the fact that 3 nights earlier had played their hearts out to defeat the big and tough Fijians.

Not taking anything away from the Tongan performance however, as this evening, the passes stuck, the kicking game was on song, and the 17 players used were totally focused and having fun.

To their credit, the Scots never gave up and held out the Tongans from scoring in the last quarter of the match, until the last few seconds. However not much consolation for a team who showed they can tough it out with their hard fought victory over Fiji on Wednesday night.

The Tongans? Well they exit this World Cup competition with a comprehensive victory however must rue lost opportunities early in the tournament when they initially promised so much.

Very humid conditions at Rockhampton as the national anthems are played. A tough 2 day turnaround for Scotland while Tonga benefit from an 8 day break. A very passionate haka from the Tongans. Black armbands are worn in respect for Coach Dymock's father-in-law who sadly passed away.
