EASTS TIGERS 28 defeat REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS 22
Easts has climbed off the canvas after a month of body blows to beat Redcliffe 28-22 in a stirring come-from-behind win at Langlands Park.
Defeated in their four previous matches, the Tigers showed great spirit to recover from a 22-12 deficit, clinching the result with a Brandon Costin try in the 74th minute.
?For sure, that could be a turning point in our season. It?s the win we had to have,? said Easts coach Michael Booth.
?We started to get ourselves back on track against Burleigh last week and picked things up from there this time around. We showed a lot of ticker I thought.?
While coaches typically praise their big men for grinding out a win, Booth said it was the ?smaller guys? who put the Stones Corner team on the path to victory.
Wingers Steve Beattie and Walter Imo, along with Matt Lockyer and Rob Maller, took the pressure of their forwards with incisive running from within their own half, while Costin steered the team admirably.
In only his fifth season of rugby league after growing up in Victoria, Imo continues to impress and is rated by Booth as an NRL prospect, provided he maintains the rapid improvement.
Redcliffe?s own aspiring wing talent Chris Giumelli posted the first try of the afternoon and by halftime the Dolphins led 16-12.
Battling an oppressive penalty count, the visitors managed to extend their lead to 10 with another try after the break, but allowed Easts to assume the ascendancy through some costly errors.
Aside from Costin?s game-breaker at the death, utility Phil Dennis finished the afternoon with a double for the Tigers, ending Redcliffe?s own run of four wins in a row.
Next Saturday sees Easts travel to Proserpine to face the North Queensland Young Guns, while Redcliffe collides with Burleigh on Sunday at Dolphin Oval.
EASTS 28 (Phil Dennis 2, Steve Beattie, Brandon Costin, Darren Smith tries; Brandon Costin 3, Leigh Coghill goals)

REDCLIFFE 22 (Chris Guimelli, Michael Roberts, Shannon Fish, Adam Starr tries; Greg Bourke 3 goals)
