Toyota Cup Wrap - Round 5

Defence, for some teams this week, it seems to only be thing that goes around de-oval, with a few teams being on the wrong side of a one sided result. It wasn't all thrashings though, there were a few close games to raise the blood pressure of any team-involved supporter.

The two games on Friday saw differing results - at the SFS it was see-sawing contest, with both South Sydney and Wests trading leads for most of the game but in the end, South Sydney would hold on and the runners up last year would have their second win for 2011.

Conversely in North Queensland, the Titans started brightly and scored the opening try but it was downhill from there, North Queensland winning 36 points to 12, doubles to Michael Morgan and Michael Parker Walshe.

Our first game on Saturday was a complete walkover, Roosters dominated the opening 20 minutes but from then on, it was all the Junior Warriors who racked up an impressive 42 points with eight diferent try scorers, with the Roosters not crossing the stripe once.

Over in the Shire, the Toyota Cup saw a reverse of the first grade result, with Cronulla stealing a tight one, coming back from being down 20 points to 4 to Chad Townsend slotting a field goal to win 21-20. Saturday's last contest, was another walkover, with Canberra continue their dominance of Toyota Cup football, winning 44 points to 12.

The Dragons will be flogged at training this week, being thrashed again, this time by Canterbury Bankstown at the historic SCG, the Bulldogs side were too classy, making metres at will and won 46-8 but it could have been more. If not for some defence in the last ten minutes from St George who now languish in 15th, while Canterbury remain sixth.

Melbourne almost blew it in the Toyota Cup, they lead 16-0 after 17 minutes but Parramatta almost made a comeback but stoic defence from the Thunderbolts prevailed and Melbourne won 22-16.

Brisbane put Newcastle through the cleaners on Monday afternoon, despite the constant rain around Brisbane, they racked up over 50 points on a struggling Newcastle side. Without several of their young stars, who have made the leap to first grade, it was a good display by the young Broncos, which included Dale Copley from first grade.
