Tweed win the "Battle of the
Seagulls"

Tweed Heads Seagulls 36 defeat Wynnum Seagulls 10

Tweed Heads has given its best performance of the season thus far, downing Wynnum 36-10 at the Piggabeen Complex.

While the home side benefited from a fantastic game by halfback Tim Maccan (pictured), the visitors were without chief playmaker Jace Van Dijk, who injured his ankle the previous week.

Wynnum scored the first and last tries of the game and competed well, but Tweed was by far the more clinical and disciplined outfit, pleasing coach Steve Murphy no end.

Specifically, Tweed built its game around a good kick-chase and worked to a plan of turning around the big opposition forwards and entrenching them at the far end of the field.

?When you stick to a formula and it pays off, it creates a belief within the team that you can execute and win,? Murphy said.

?It makes the job so much easier, because you know what you are doing at training or persevering with is going to achieve a result.

?One of the main reasons Andrew Moroney has been so wonderful for us as captain is that he believes in our game plans and he supports whatever directions I give.

?I think the others tend to follow him and feed off his enthusiasm and faith in them.?

Aside from Moroney and Maccan, former Wynnum boy Cory Bond was also outstanding for the victors, although Murphy contended he had ?17 contributors?.

Tweed lead 20-4 at halftime and dominated possession and territory as Wynnum struggled to get into the groove and ran afoul of referee Justin Eastwood.

?I think we are gaining credibility and that?s what I hoped to establish,? Murphy said.

?Teams look at us and think they should beat us, but they find it hard because the one thing we do is compete.?

Tweed has the bye in Round 12, while Wynnum travels to Rockhampton on Saturday night to take on Central.

TWEED HEADS 36 (Nat Barnes 2, Tim Maccan 2, Ben Hill, Jay Hampson tries; Brad Davis 6 goals)
