Two new fliers give Broncos an
'express' advantage

London Broncos have today announced the signing of two three-quarters for the 2004 and 2005 season.

Joining the club will be John Kirkpatrick from St Helens and Wakefield's Jon Wells.

Kirkpatrick, a former Preston Grasshoppers RU player, made nine appearances in what was an injury-hit 2003 season, including four on loan at Halifax.

A hat-trick against Leeds Rhinos in a televised fixture last season saw Kirkpatrick shoot to stardom after emerging through the ranks at St Helens, earning him a new contract in the process. He joined St Helens in September 1999 and made his first team debut two years later.

He scored two tries in the 46-22 win over Bradford in round one, although was then injured before joining Halifax on loan. His next appearance was for Halifax in round 13 at Huddersfield.

He also scored in the 50 -16 loss to London in round 16 but did not play since suffering an injury in Saints' 28-14 Round 22 win over Hull.

Jon Wells made 23 appearances for Wakefield this season after joining from Castleford Tigers, where he had scored 49 tries in 128 appearances.

He wasn't as prolific in his try scoring this season with Wakefield, however, proved a valuable utility player, figuring at wing, centre and full back during the campaign.

Wells earned representative honours at junior level in both rugby league and rugby union before joining the Tigers, making his debut against Bradford in June 1996.

Tony Rea is delighted with the new signings and can't wait to see them on the end of his talented and experienced back line next year: "They're both fliers and great modern day wingers who know how to find the line."

They're strong, fast, young and exciting players to watch. With the likes of Jimmy and Dennis creating things inside them, I reckon they'll both see plenty of open pasture next season."

In other news:

Ticket sales for the England 'A' v Australia game are well on track for a record rugby league crowd in Brentford.

London Broncos generally only utilise two of the four available stands and terraces for Tetley's Super League games at Griffin Park, however, all four will be opened, and hopefully filled, for the International on Tuesday 28th October.
