Wakefield Trinity 29 - London
Broncos 18

Wakefield ended their three-match losing sequence in engage Super League with a hard-fought 29-18 win over London Broncos at the Atlantic Solutions Stadium.

The Wildcats were in control for much of the game but Broncos refused to lie down and made their hosts dig deep to avenge their record 72-8 defeat in the capital in February.

Two tries in six minutes from Ben Jeffries and Jamie Rooney in the third quarter should have put the result beyond doubt but London replied through Zeb Luisi and Nick Bradley-Qalilawa to cut the gap to 26-14.

Rooney landed a penalty, but Broncos reclaimed the ball from the restart for Luke Dorn to score his side's fourth try in the 74th minute, cutting the gap to just 10 points.

A Rooney drop-goal in the last minute used up vital seconds and secured victory for the hard-working Wildcats.

Twelve-man London also rallied late in the first half to cut the gap to just 10 points at half-time.

The Broncos had trailed 14-0 after half an hour but seemed to gain fresh strength after full-back Luisi was sent to the sin-bin in the 37th minute for a head high tackle on Jeffries.

Had Rooney put over the conversions the hosts would have been in a far more commanding position ? a situation that their play in the first half deserved.

Wakefield started at a fantastic pace and opened the scoring after five minutes when Jeffries and wing Semi Tadulala combined to break out of their half. Skipper Jason Demetriou then finished off a fine passing move on the opposite side of the field.

Rooney landed a penalty in the 12th minute and 10 minutes later Wakefield claimed their second try. Again basic, direct passing paved the way, this time for Tadulala to touch down wide out on Wakefield's left.

Six minutes later Wakefield seemed to have taken control of the game with a third, stunning try.

Dave March went from acting half and centre Andy Kirk took the line on at pace before turning the ball inside for second row Dave Wrench to plant the ball down. That made the score 14-4 but London were far from beaten.
