Warrington Wolves avenged their Good Friday defeat at Salford in style to reclaim third place in the engage Super League with a 48-14 victory.

A sizzling second-half show by Warrington plunged the Reds into deeper relegation trouble. Ben Westwood was the hat-trick star for Warrington who led only 16-14 until midway through the second half.

Salford had an early chance to go in front but David Hodgson chose to kick ahead instead of trying to beat Chris Bridge and the chance was lost.

Warrington grabbed their first try after four minutes when Lee Briers put Logan Swann over for his first try.

Karl Fitzpatrick, back from a torn hamstring, made two try-saving tackles for Salford who led 8-6 after half an hour.

The lively Luke Robinson sent Mark Shipway through for the first try before youngster Tim Hartley took Chris Charles' pass to edge the Reds ahead.

But when Hodgson failed to collect Bridges' kick, Toa Kohe-Love pounced to restore Warrington's lead.

A Shipway mistake enabled Warrington to lead 16-8 at half-time, with Briers putting Martin Gleeson over.

Robinson's 40-20 kick early in the second half set up the chance for Andy Coley to brush off Briers and find Cliff Beverley in support to touch down, with Charles landing his first conversion to cut the gap to 16-14.

But then a Gleeson tackle forced Hodgson to lose the ball with the Great Britain centre firing a pass to Westwood for his first touchdown after 57 minutes.

Westwood notched his second on the hour with Bridge's goal putting the game beyond reach at 28-14.

Jon Clarke set up the chance for Swann to go over for his second try, before Westwood completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time.

But Warrington were still not finished, with Kohe-Love adding a further try and Briers? conversion extending the lead to 44-14.

Salford were in total disarray when Briers surged through a gap in midfield to provide Gleeson with his second try and complete the romp.
