North Queensland remains on top of the NRL ladder after a weekend when three of the top four sides lost. Brisbane bucked the trend to be in third place after the 30-6 win over Penrith and Melbourne is second after thrashing the Knights 52-6.

Manly moved into sixth spot following their 40-14 victory over the Bulldogs yesterday, with halfback Matt Orford boosting his chances of snaring the NSW number seven jumper.

Cronulla and Parramatta both got their seasons back on track with much needed victories, the Sharks ending North Queensland's unbeaten start to the year with a 24-22 win on Saturday night.

Tomorrow's Anzac Day clash pits the Sydney Roosters against St George Illawarra at Aussie Stadium, with the winner to move into the top eight.

Meanwhile, Newcastle prop Josh Perry has a nervous wait for the NRL match review committee to delivery its charge sheet following the weekend's matches. Perry appeared to lift his knee into Melbourne hooker Nathan Friend during a scuffle midway through the Storm's 52-6 victory over the Knights on Saturday night.

Storm winger Jake Webster's likely to find himself in trouble over a lifting tackle on Newcastle fullback David Seage. Webster's teammate Michael Crocker was mistakenly placed on report over the incident.

Rookie Parramatta backrower Zeb Taia will be hoping to avoid being charged for a high tackle against Wests Tigers on Friday night.
