An update on news from the West Indies Rugby League Federation.

Steve Pryce named coach of West Indies West Indies Rugby League has announced Steve Pryce as its national coach for the 2004 representative season. Steve Pryce, a well known player in Rugby League circles has played over 200 games for National League side, Hunslet.

Pryce made his debut the Hawks in the 1994 ? 1995 season (back when Rugby League was played in winter in Britain) against Leigh under coach Steve Ferres, making the 200 game mark at the start of the 2002 season.

So far in 2004 Pryce has already participated in all three matches the Hawks have played, coming off the bench in all instances.

Pryce will coach the West Indies side in all major internationals, which will take place towards the end of the year.

Lee St Hilaire joins the coaching team Huddersfield assistant coach, and coaching director for the Giants U/21 and U/18 Academy sides, Lee St Hilaire, has confirmed that he will take the role of assistant coach to Steve Pryce for the West Indies national side.

St Hilaire has been involved with the Giants for the past three years, overlooking the junior development in the Huddersfield region, and in that time has moved to the Rugby Football League?s elite coaching program.

The West Indian Rugby League Federation welcomes Lee St Hilaire, to the team and look forward to see his positive influence on the national side.

Chev Walker declares intensions to play for West Indies Leeds Rhino?s star player, Chev Walker, has today declared his intensions to play for the West Indies national side in an exclusive interview to Peter Smith in the Leeds Evening Post. Chev Walker who has made both the Great Britain & Ireland and England national sides is able to play for the West Indies side as it has not yet been given Test status by the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF).

Chev Walker family is from Jamaica, and the talented centre stated in his interview that ?and it would be an honour to represent them and just to put the West Indies on the map.?

It is hoped that Chev Walker?s involvement in the West Indies Rugby League will encourage other high profile players who are eligible for the representative side to declare their intensions to play.

Hayden James joins West Indies squad New York Knight?s giant, Hayden James, has announced his eligibility for the West Indies representative side. James, who stands at a giant 6?3? currently resides in Harlem in the USA, however grew up in Trinidad playing Rugby in the region before moving across to the United States.

James was involved in the premiership winning 2002 Knights side in the American National Rugby League, and was a stand out performer last year, despite New York just falling short in the finals. He is hoping for another strong season so he can be selected for the West Indies end of season internationals.
