Wigan 2013 Challenge Cup Champions

The Wigan Warriors have claimed the 2013 Challenge Cup final with a 16-0 victory over Hull FC in wet conditions at Wembley Stadium.

A strong crowd of 78,137 witnessed Wigan do what they needed to do to secure their 19th Challenge Cup. The conditions saw the quality of football reduced with the number of errors from both sides sky high.

As a result, there were just two tries posted in the contest. Iain Thornley opened the scoring for Wigan 22 minutes into the contest after a tough first half. Thornley scored as he fooled the defence with a brilliant dummy to cross the whitewash.

Wigan held a 6-0 lead at the break after Matt Smith failed to land a last ditch field goal as the siren sounded.

Pat Richards in his final Challenge Cup match before heading back to Australia to play with his former club, Wests Tigers, posted two penalties goals to extend Wigan's lead to 10 points, 10-0 after 60 minutes.

Sam Tomkins secured Wigan's victory with a last minute as he dived on a pin-point Blake Green kick in goal. The Warriors doing enough to down Hull FC, 16-0, as the red and white fans at Wembley celebrated the victory.
