Wigan first opponent at Leigh's new stadium

Wigan Warriors can today confirm that they will face near neighbours Leigh Centurions in an exciting pre-season fixture at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 1st February 2009 with a 3pm kick off.

The Warriors last played Leigh in a competitive game in 2005 and this eagerly anticipated game will mark the official rugby opening of the new Stadium.

Leigh Sports Village is the biggest investment in public sports, recreational and educational facilities in Wigan borough for many years and is transforming Wigan & Leigh into one of the finest hubs of activity in the North West. The project has involved significant levels of regeneration and economic development, especially in relation to education and leisure, and specifically provides new sporting and college facilities for both the town and the district.

A host of events are currently being planned to mark this historic event with further details to be announced in due course.

Speaking about the game, Warriors Chief Executive Mick Hogan said,
