Woolford suspended for eight
weeks

Canberra captain Simon Woolford will miss the rest of the NRL regular season after tonight being banned for eight weeks for a dangerous throw in last week's loss to the Melbourne Storm.

Woolford failed to have his charge downgraded after a tackle on Storm fullback Billy Slater, despite a supporting letter from the Queensland fullback.

Canberra general manager Don Furner says the club is 99 per cent certain to seek leave to appeal an eight week ban handed down to skipper Simon Woolford by the NRL judiciary tonight.

An NRL official said the judiciary at the end of the season is prepared to look at the effect of lower grade offences on a player's points loading. The Raiders argue the punishment is too great for the crime.
