WHEN Shane Richardson walks out of the Panthers Leagues Club for the final time, he should hold his head in shame. I don?t believe for a moment that his move to Souths is about facing a new challenge. It?s about the dollars and that?s that.
CONTROVERSIAL forward Willie Mason is tipped to keep his spot in the New South Wales State of Origin squad for this month?s second game of the three match series against Queensland.
SYDNEY Roosters head coach Ricky Stuart has been handed the reigns as New South Wales coach for next year's State of Origin rugby league series.
WITH half back Brett Finch at the helm, the Sydney Roosters have overcome a determined North Queensland Cowboys outfit with an entertaining 32-22 win at ExpressAdvocate Stadium tonight.
THE New Zealand Warriors have come to life in a rare occasion for their season with a
20-10 win over the Parramatta Eels at Ericsson Stadium.
MELBOURNE Storm has staked its claim as a genuine premiership threat by bursting into the NRL?s top four in sensational fashion tonight, annihilating the Penrith Panthers 66-14 at Olympic Park.
TO the players, coaches and management of the Newtown club,,
It is with great pleasure I write to you today to send my congratulations to Col Murphy (and Tommy Raudonikis who would have been mighty proud), and to all the players and management of the mighty Newtown Jets.
My brother recently mentioned to me that he was coming down from Brisbane for Origin 1 and while he was down here wanted to see the Jets play (Our entire family have been life long Newtown supporters). So we checked the calendar, made motel arrangements and headed up to Energy Australia Stadium. My father who had not been to a live league game for over 15 years (And I can't recall the last time he saw the Jets play) was also keen to come along.
So in Newcastle we arrived .... Entered the main gates and as we headed to our seats (Of course all decked out in our Newtown gear) the entire Jets team came jogging past us on their way onto the field. We hoped that this may have proved to be some small seed of inspiration, as from the moment kick off occurred they totally dominated the match. The effort, dedication and commitment that all players showed during the match was first class and was reflected in the final result. Each player should be proud of their contribution during the match, a game Newcastle were never in.
It reminded me of the grand old days of 1981, when we were seeing the Royal Blue & Whites dominating.
It's a pity that such a fantastic win happened away from home as all supporters of the club would have been impressed with the quality of the victory.
So congratulations once again, the team certainly brought huge smiles to our faces and made us the happiest Newtown supporters in Newcastle on Saturday night.
If you wish to publish this email feel free to do so and send this quick note to all Newtown supporters far and wide ....
The mighty Newtown Jets spirit is alive and well and everybody, do yourselves a favour and get along to all their games. There is a small, dedicated band of players & officials doing each and every Newtown supporter proud and your support is required.
See you all at Henson Park this Saturday when we take on the Tigers!
Continued success for the remainder of the season.
Newtown Jets supporter.
RICHARD is no stranger to the Broncos having made seven appearances whilst on loan two years ago, scoring two tries.
That helped him to earn a place on the England A tour to Fiji and Tonga later that season, while he played eight times in Super League VIII for the Bulls.
Originally with Leeds Rhinos' Academy, he faced his former club for the Bulls' Under-21 side on Tuesday night before completing the switch to Griffin Park.
DANIEL Anderson has become the second coach this week to part company with his club, with the former Parramatta Assistant Coach today confirming his departure from the New Zealand Warriors.
WHO else is sick of watching South Sydney lose game after game? They have been without a doubt THE worst performing team over the past 25 years. In 1989 there was a brief glimmer of hope when they took out the minor premiership only to crash and burn in the semi-finals. Then in 1994 a proud red and green march saw the Bunnies claim the pre-season Tooheys Challenge Cup against a near-International Brisbane outfit, before yet another year of complete failure.
