RFL to start 2004 debt free

RUGBY League in Britain has turned the corner and will start 2004 completely debt free, putting it in a far greater position to truly push the greatest game of all to the English public. Richard Lewis, who took over the position as executive chairman in March 2002 incurred a ?1.9m debt which was party made up from the loss from the 2000 Rugby League World Cup which lost ?700,000, as well as previous debts the RFL have been paying back for the last 15 years.

Rugby Football League To Start Year With Clean Slate

THE Rugby Football League will start 2004 in the black after wiping out a ?2m debt, according to its new boss. The RFL appointed Richard Lewis as their first executive chairman in March, 2002, and he inherited the bulk of a ?1.9m debt.

Now RLI has teamed up with the fund-raising group 1895 International to stage a gala dinner in order to raise the necessary funds push forward this exciting new development.

Britain Seeks To Return to World Cup Series

BRITAIN are pushing for a return of the rugby league World Cup in 2008 to replace the Tri-Nations tournament. The possibility of holding the event will be discussed when the International Federation meets in Sydney on 26 January.

Widnes Face Tough Competition in 7's

WIDNES will face champions Parramatta and Cronulla Sharks first up in their qualifying pool at next month's World Sevens. The Vikings are representing Great Britain in Sydney and also using the tournament as part of their pre-season training camp in Australia.
