Wests Tigers v Gold Coast Titans

Wests Tigers won 21-20 against Gold Coast Titans in front of 16,703 fans at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday afternoon.

It was a topsy-turvey game which saw both sides try to throw the game away. Ultimately, it was the Tigers who triumphed, thanks to an Adam Doueihi field goal in the final minute after a late four-pointer from Jeral Skelton.

The Titans struck first in this contest after Sunia Turuva couldn't collect a high kick. Jayden Campbell unfurled a superb pass for Jaylen De Groot to stroll over for the opener.

The hosts hit back with a four-pointer themselves to get the crowd going. A short pass from Tyrell May found his brother Taylan May who went over in the corner on his return to the NRL.

Tigers extended their lead to 12-4 from another swift move. It was a backline shift which ended up with Jeral Skelton bumping off a defender and planting the ball down.

It was a fast and furious end to the first half for the Titans. They executed a backline move of their own, on the left side which saw Phillip Sami nudge himself over to reduce the deficit.

They would take a lead into half-time after some Campbell magic again. The break was made on the left before it was sent right and the halfback dropped a kick right onto the chest of De Groot to score.

The second half was filled with errors and missed chances from both sides. Tigers did level the game from the tee after Sunia Turuva was caught high and Apisai Koroisau made it 14-all.

The Tigers took the lead again from another penalty. Titans didn't pack the scrum in time and Koroisau easily piloted over the penalty goal and gave them a two-point lead.

Some individual brilliance put the Titans ahead and stunned the Leichhardt crowd. AJ Brimson stepped past two Tigers defenders to score under the sticks and Campbell's conversion made it 20-16.

There was one final twist in the game. Tigers were camped down the Titans end, the clock was ticking down and they needed a four-pointer. It was a move left which saw Skelton get his second of the afternoon to lock it up again.

Tigers did finish the game in regulation. Regan Campbell-Gillard was pinged for a crusher which gave them a chance. It was sent back to Adam Doueihi who drilled the field goal and hand the Tigers the win.
