Wigan blast Leigh in Borough battle

The Wigan Warriors have put the Leigh Leopards to the sword, inflicting a 54-0 hiding on last year's semi-finalists to kickstart Round 3. It was a loss that had further blows for Adrian Lam with several key injuries.

The first major headache came when Joe Ofahengaue came from the field after feeling a pop in his calf. Leigh were already struggling with the speed of the Wigan forwards and Bevan French exposed the edge defence, with a sharp pass to Adam Keighran for the opening try after 11 minutes.

Wigan soon added a second following a terrific passage of footy. Harry Smith broke through off a Sam Walters offload and on the ensuing play, French charged over to eventually slam the ball down for a 12-0 cushion.

The hosts would add two more tries in the next ten minutes to take a 24-0 lead into half time. A Smith kick was batted back by Junior Nsemba before Jai Field had too much pace for the cover. Minutes later, the defence backed off Field who found a charging Smith to cross under the sticks, there was an element of doubt over the last pass but the points were on the board.

Pain continued for Leigh after the break when Oliver Partington combined with impact forward Pat Mago to put him away before linking with Field to score his second double in as many weeks. French had the game on a silver platter and put Zach Eckersley away in the corner just before the hour mark with a terrific pass.

Wigan added three more tries to inflict salt into the already gaping wound that was the Leigh defensive line. Nsemba crossed after a well placed Harry Smith grubber while Smith and bench hooker Tom Forber added tries for a 54-0 hiding. The news got worse for Leigh with fullback Bailey Hodgson carried from the field with a suspected serious knee injury, the third sustained by a fullback against Wigan in as many weeks.

Tigers add to Giants' misery

The Castleford Tigers have rebounded from a sloppy opening fortnight to easily dispatch of lowly Huddersfield by 34-8 in slippery conditions at the Jungle to give Ryan Carr his first win as Castleford coach.

Huddersfield's shaky on-goal defence was exposed early when Liam Hood charged over after seven minutes to give the hosts the lead. Taane Milne was lucky to avoid any disciplinary action over a high tackle, but it didn't matter as the Tigers found a second try courtesy of Darnell McIntosh.

Milne found himself in the sin-bin mere minutes later when he was guilty of too many infringements. The hosts made light work of the numbers advantage when George Lawler charged across. Huddersfield did have their chances but determined Tigers defence held them out. That was until two minutes before half-time when Jacob Gagai crossed off a terrific pass from Oliver Russell to cut the gap to 12 at half-time.

Tom Weaver impressed in the second half scoring a double that gave the Tigers a commanding position. The first came off a well-weighted Daejarn Asi grubber kick that sat-up perfectly for the former Titan after 47 minutes. Huddersfield managed a try that served as consolation only when George Flanagan Jr collected a loose ball from a kick.

Weaver's second try just after the hour mark sealed the Tigers first win of the season after a bust by experienced Joe Westerman who busted through like a man in an alley way before finding the Aussie youngster to score under the sticks. Ashton Golding scored late in his Castleford debut to put the exclamation mark on a terrific win.

York stun Hull, rugby league world - again

The York Knights have completed the Hull double to start season 2026, with an impressive 17-16 win over an injury depleted Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.

It was an impressive start to the game that was played in terrible conditions throughout. The visitors opened the scoring after ten minutes when a terrific tap on from Toa Mata'afa sent new signing David Nofoaluma over in the corner to put the hosts up 6-0.

Hull who have battled a significant injury toll already this season soon added points of their own midway through the first half. Off a scrum play, Jake Arthur made his presence felt when he dug into the line to send makeshift fullback Davy Litten over to level the scores. Hull were quick to attack from inside their own end and Harvey Barron crossed before the half, capitalising on York mistakes to open up a 10-6 lead.

But, the hosts came out of the sheds a different side and sorely missed the organisation of Aidan Sezer who left the field due to blurred vision. Barron wouldn't want to see the replays of an unfortunate sequence that led to Nofoaluma's second try. He was lucky to have ruled to have knocked a Liam Harris bomb backwards, but dropped the ensuing yardage carry before kick hands to the new Samoan import saw him cross in the corner.

Jed Cartwright soon found himself dispatched to the sin-bin for a professional foul and the Knights made easy work of the overlap. Nice hands from Harris and Mata'afa sent Jamaican flyer Ben Jones-Bishop away in the corner and the sideline conversion from new signing Danny Richardson gave the visitors a comfortable gap.

A field goal from Richardson with 15 to go appeared to have the match won, but Hull had different ideas. A Cade Cust grubber was grounded just in time by Lewis Martin and Hardaker's inch perfect conversion reduced the gap to one. But, the experienced man's rushed field goal attempt was short of the mark to give York their second win in Super League history.

Wire win Wakefield wrestle

Warrington have continued their undefeated start to the season, handing Wakefield their first loss of the season by claiming an 11-point victory at home.

It was a tense beginning as Warrington dominated possession. An offside penalty enabled the first scoring play of the game when Marc Sneyd added a penalty goal after 14 minutes. Seven minutes before the break, new import Tof Sipley charged his way over claiming a try. After a nervous video referee examination, Chris Kendall overturned Liam Rush's live decision of no-try and the Wire had an 8-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Danny Walker's clever dart out of dummy half exposed the Wakefield defence before Albert Hopoate backed up in support to score a vital try in the shadows of the break. Wakefield did knock over a penalty goal before the break to make the score 14-2 at half-time after a spree of penalties that saw Sipley turn from hero to zero as he was dispatched to the sin-bin.

Wakefield started the second half with intent and a nice movement saw a delightful pass from Jake Trueman to Max Jowitt who was flying down the right touchline to slam the ball down for the visitors. We were set for a thrilling second half when Trueman delivered another terrific pass down the left edge to send Jayden Myers over to score to cut the gap to four.

Warrington woke up with 25 minutes to play and it was a Sneyd cross field kick that landed on a dime for QLD Cup standout Josh Smith to score in the corner to restore order in the contest. Sneyd landed another penalty goal when George Williams stayed down claiming high contact and was rewarded by the referee.

The visitors weren't going down without a fight. A clever cross kick by Jack Sinfield was pursued by Oli Pratt who won the race to the bouncing ball to touch down reducing the gap to six points as we headed into the final ten minutes.

Myers was searching for a double late before he was smashed over the sideline, Warrington marched down field to knock over a Sneyd go ahead field goal before Smith somehow kept the ball alive to send Toby King over out wide to seal a 27-16 victory for the hosts.

Second half Saints douse Dragons

St Helens have claimed back-to-back victories over a disappointing Catalans Dragons side thanks to a 30-point second half in a 36-4 hiding at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Saints had the first chance when Tristan Sailor went close after three minutes but determined left edge defence denied the pivot. A bust in the ninth minute had the visitors set up nicely, Darryl Clark had to simply back up in support to score the first try of the contest for a 6-0 advantage.

It was a determined first half and there was no other scoring plays in the half but the second 40 was when the flood gates opened. Nine minutes into the half, a crash ball sent former Rabbitoh Jacob Host over the line. Minutes later, a Sailor break caught the Dragons defence at sixes and sevens before Hastings went "left for Wright" to send Shane Wright over.

Catalans' middle had great difficulty containing Clark's darts out of dummy half. Just after the hour mark, he charged over once more from acting half to set up a 24-0 lead, and the signs were ominous for the hosts. The hosts had their moment in the sun when Charlie Staines fired a great pass to Josh Simm to race down the sideline before linking up with Staines to score.

Hastings fired a penalty goal to put the game out of reach for the Dragons. Saints fired two more tries in the second half when Kyle Feldt scored a quick-fire double. The first came from a movement down the right-hand corner which saw him touch down. The second effort came from a bomb take over the top of Simm to touch down and seal an emphatic verdict.

Leeds trounce Rovers under Vegas lights

The Leeds Rhinos have delivered a major statement in Las Vegas, trouncing Hull KR by 50 points at Allegiant Stadium.

Hull KR were coming into this game as the undisputed champions of the English game, but on the American continent, they were simply no match for the Rhinos. Maika Sivo was in everything, scoring four tries and kickstarting the scoring in the opening ten minutes after a delightful cutout pass by Man of Steel Jake Connor. Five minutes later, a Harry Newman offload caused carnage when Sivo crossed for a quick-fire double, despite a forensic video referee review, the try was eventually awarded.

Leeds dominated possession and punished Rovers for their poor discipline and errors coming out of territory. Brodie Croft shone his light brightest with a stunning solo try before Keenan Palasia turned Jack Broadbent into a human speedbump on his way to a sensational individual try.

Despite limited chances, Hull KR never turned away. A short dropout was taken by the man of the moment Sivo and following a 90-metre swing of possession, Ryan Hall charged over for a stunning 28-0 lead at half-time. Croft added to Hull KR's woes after half-time with his second try off a delightful Danny Levi pass.

Sivo added to his third try moments later when Rovers' inability to take possession off kicks was exposed. Lachie Miller turned defence into attack with a terrific show and go before finding Sivo for his hattrick. Hull KR added a consolation try when Joe Burgess quickly touched down but the Rovers fans quickly could pack away their flags.

The SIVO chant continued around Allegiant Stadium when he charged over for his fourth try in the left corner taking advantage of some tiring Rovers defence. Cooper Jenkins added a quick-fire double with ridiculous ease as the Rhinos caused maximum damage in Las Vegas.

Leeds were ultra impressive and the changes around the ruck interpretations have benefited their superstars such as Jake Connor and Lachie Miller while Brodie Croft and Danny Levi have proven to be great foils. Hull KR were out enthused in the contest really early and something will have to change quickly for Willie Peters' chargers, the coach ripped into his side, calling the effort "soft" post-game.

Bradford find their defensive resolve against sluggish Toulouse

The Bradford Bulls have claimed back to back wins when they down Toulouse by 18-6 at the Odsal Stadium.

It was a tense opening to the game with both sides having nervous moments. Toulouse missed a chance at penalty goal while Bradford added one of their own after a high tackle to lead 2-0.

The visitors dominated possession and got their reward after 24 minutes got their reward. A crash pass from Cesar Rouge landed on the chest of Anthony Marion to touch down and lead 6-2.

The hosts wouldn't be denied for long when they capitalised on some poor discipline to level the scores. A nice offload from Joe Mellor isolated the defence before Rowan Milnes linked up with Waqa Blake who had too much strength for Rennie to touch down.

Bradford carried all momentum heading into the break after a lovely passage of play that saw Connor Wynne set it up with a determined run. On the ensuing play, Milnes and Luke Hooley combined brilliantly to set Ethan Ryan on his way and give the Bulls a 4-point lead at halftime.

The hosts began the second half with intent and purpose. Off the back of a quicker ruck speed generated by their back five, they crossed for their third try when Milnes' cross field kick sat up perfectly for Ryan to jump over Paul Ulberg to score his second.

On the hour mark, Caleb Aekins made his mark with a delightful cutout pass to Ryan and the Irish international capped off a terrific game with a hat trick of tries. There was chances for Toulouse in the second half but their goal line attack was really disappointing.
