CHALLENGE CUP FOURTH ROUND
ROUND-UP

Salford City Reds joined Bradford Bulls and Widnes Vikings in being Tetley's Rugby Super League clubs to exit the Powergen Challenge Cup at the Fourth Round stage on Sunday. Bradford and Widnes both came unstuck in televised clashes on Sunday, with St Helens winning at Odsal and Wigan coming from 12-0 down to defeat the Vikings at The JJB Stadium.

Salford, who won 24-12 last week against Widnes in the Super League opener, lost 24-8 at London Broncos.

The Griffin Park outfit led 12-0 at half time, thanks to a third-minute try from Joe Mbu and Nigel Roy's score on the half hour, with Paul Sykes adding a conversion and a penalty.

Dennis Moran raced 80 metres for an interception try to consolidate the lead, and Andrew Hart secured the win with his first try since a move from South Sydney.

Malcolm Alker and Anthony Stewart grabbed late consolations for Salford.

Last season's beaten finalists Leeds Rhinos secured safe passage to the last 16 with a 68-18 win at Workington Town.

Mark Calderwood and Francis Cummins both scored twice as Leeds opened up a 46-0 interval lead, with Willie Poching, Chris McKenna and Rob Burrow also scoring.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan's try brought up the half century before Workington pulled back two tries through Martin Stalker and Brett Smith, Gareth Skillen converting both.

Chev Walker and Chris Feather extended Leeds' lead and Matt Diskin sealed the win before Workington grabbed a converted consolation try through Graeme Lewthwaite.

Hull FC booked their place in the Fifth Round with a 21-14 win at Leigh Centurions.

Kirk Yeaman, Garreth Carvell, Colin Best and Shaun Briscoe were the Airlie Birds' try scorers, with Paul Cooke kicking two goals and Richard Whiting adding the crucial drop goal.

Tommy Martyn and Ian Knott were Leigh's try scorers, with Neil Turley kicking three goals.

Huddersfield Giants ended French club Pia's involvement in this year's competition with a 50-16 win at The McAlpine Stadium.

Marcus St Hilaire and Paul March helped them into an early lead, with Stanley Gene and Ben Cooper also touching down in the first half.

Nicolas Athiel had got Pia off the mark before Sebastien Terrado touched down either side of the break and also kicked two goals to keep them in the tie.

But St Hilaire, Stuart Jones, Paul Reilly and Stuart Donlan put the game beyond the French club before Ben Roarty's late brace completed the scoring, Brandon Costin kicking three goals and March adding two.

Limouxin will be France's sole representatives in the Fifth Round draw on Monday, after their 19-18 home win against Halifax.

Doncaster Dragons saw off Hunslet Hawks, while another Yorkshire derby saw York City Knights win 22-12 at depleted Sheffield Eagles.

Featherstone Rovers won 52-6 at London Skolars to book their place in Monday's draw, while Oldham's clash with amateur side Sharlston Rovers was postponed, and will now be played on Wednesday night.
