DRAGONS Supporters, Round 18 of the NRL season saw the Dragons take outright second on the table with a 38-28 victory over the Rabbitoh's at Oki Jubilee stadium. The Dragons started the game with all guns blazing and 2 kicks from Matthew Head saw Brett Morris and Mark Gasnier both post tries in the first 10 minutes. From there the match turned into an arm wrestle of sorts with both sides looking good in patches, but neither side really doing a great deal to impress their coaches. The Dragons were able to hold on and take a 10 point victory, but will have to improve their attitude markedly if they are to compete with this week's opponents, the Bulldogs. The MBDS screening of this blockbuster will be back at Crown Casino in the SteakOut Sports Bar from 8:30pm onwards. This is the first Dragons v Bulldogs encounter held at Oki Jubilee for many years so expect a full house off the field and plenty of fireworks on the field as these 2 local rivals try to gain an edge over one another in the back half of the season. DRAGONS Supporters, Whilst last night's Origin result would have been disappointing for any Blues fans, and very exciting for Queensland fans, it was certainly fantastic to have the pinnacle of League being played in our city. For anyone lucky enough to attend I think you'll agree the roof being closed created a great atmosphere and the NRL should look at playing more big matches there in future. This weeks match for the Dragons is against the Bunnies on Sunday. After having the bye last week the Dragons leap frogged the Sharks into third position on the NRL Ladder. With a couple of players backing up from Origin the Dragons will have to be on their game to ensure we take the 2 points. Our screening is back at the Grosvenor Hotel on Sunday at 6pm so SEE YOU THERE! WHAT: Dragons v RabbitohsWHEN: 6pm Sunday 9th JulyWHERE: Grosvenor Hotel, 10 Brighton Rd East St Kilda. GO THE DRAGONS!
DRAGONS Supporters, Last Friday night saw a remarkable victory for the mighty Red and Whites, with the Dragons stealing victory from the Bronco's with a converted try in the final minutes of the match. With a less than impressive performance that saw the Dragons complete roughly1/3 of their sets, they were lucky to hang in there until the death when a soaring Brett Morris took a Matthew Head bomb to score out wide. After some confusion over who would take the kick Aaron Gorrell stepped up and nailed the conversion to put the Dragons 2 points up. After Mark Riddells effort a few years back the Bronco's will be happy they don't have to face us up there again until next year...... This week we take on the Cowboys at WIN stadium on Saturday night. The Cowboys form of late hasn't been up to the standard they have set in the past few years, and I would expect them to come out firing hoping to turn their slump around. Hopefully the Dragons will continue their winning ways and notch up another win before we enjoy the bye next round. We will once again be at the Grosvenor Hotel this week, always a great venue for the Saturday night clashes. Why not enjoy dinner in the restaurant before the match, and/or stick around for a few celebratory drinks afterwards? WHAT: Dragons v CowboysWHEN: Saturday 24th June, 7:30pmWHERE: Grosvenor Hotel, 10 Brighton Road, East St Kilda PS: No street sweeper parking is available at the venue.......
DRAGONS Supporters, What a massive week for sport in this great nation of ours! The mighty Socceroos snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in Kaiserslauten last night, the Blues head to Suncorp stadium on Wednesday night to attempt to wrap up the 2006 Origin series, and then Friday night the mighty Dragons take on Brisbane in another grudge match for the Saints. Does it get any better?? Crown Casino will be hosting the MBDS screening for both this week's big League matches, the State of Origin Wednesday night and the Dragons match on Friday night football. After the issues Telstra had with transmitting the first SOO from Sydney Channel Nine, we have been back for a number of screenings on Friday nights and all is definitely resolved. We have been assured the screening will be fine Wednesday night and see no reason to think otherwise. DRAGONS Supporters, What a way to make a return to Kogarah last Friday night and didn't we party!! An 8-1 victory in the pouring rain over the Eels saw the Dragons nudge their way back into the Top 8, and had League statisticians diving for their record books with the match lasting well into the second half before a point was scored. With a little bit of luck we can start scoring points before the last 10 mins of the game this week, when the Dragons take on the Panthers at Penrith. Our screening this week is at the cosy Grosvenor Hotel, live on Fox at 5:30pm Saturday. DRAGONS Supporters, What a fantastic week of sport we had served up to us last week. The mighty Blues get up on Wednesday night with a field goal, the Socceroos head off to Germany with a win over European Champions Greece, and then the Dragons smack Newcastle on their home turf! After the drubbing the Knights gave us at WIN stadium earlier this year, the Dragons must have been fired up for revenge and that was exactly what they dished out. On the back of a fairly good kicking game and a number of Newcastle errors, the Dragons went to the break with a 20-6 lead and were never headed in the second half. It's great to see what this football team is capable when they are on their game. Let's hope we see plenty more of that sort of form this year. This week's match is another Sydney grudge match, against the Parramatta Eels on Friday night. This will be the Dragons first home at Oki Jubilee and they will be expecting a sellout crowd to cheer the team home. Our screening this week is back at SteakOut at Crown Casino at 8:30pm. After the problems with Telstra which Crown experienced for the State of Origin, all was resolved for the telecast last Friday at Crown which was fine. We have been assured by the management we won't have any issues going forward and we will continue to use Crown for the Friday night and Sunday Channel Nine matches. DRAGONS Supporters, After a win over the Warriors and the bye last weekend, the Dragons now join a group of 5 teams sitting on 12 points on the NRL ladder. With this group sitting behind 5 teams leading the race on 16 points, the NRL ladder is in a position rarely seen in the past. This week the Dragons travel to Energy Australia stadium in Newcastle on Friday night to take on the Number 1 team in the comp, Joey Johns' Knights. The MBDS screening of the match will be back at SteakOut at Crown Casino, with the feed from Channel Nine in Sydney at 8:30pm. Should be another classic encounter between the two clubs who have had some great matches over the years. Crown wish to apologise for the inconvenience they caused MBDS members last night when the state of origin feed from Sydney didn?t come through. They also want to make clear that this problem has been repaired and they have a back up plan in place as well. They have assured me that the Friday night and Sunday afternoon matches will continue as well as the remaining State of Origin series. DRAGONS Supporters,Rather than dwell on the past, let's look to the future...BIG Charlie Leano! 2 tries on debut for this future superstar for the Dragons were one of the only highlights in last weeks performance. Let's hope things turn around this week. Our screening this week will be back at the Grosvenor Hotel. DRAGONS Supporters, For those of us who only get to see the Dragons play live once a year, although we lost to Melbourne AGAIN, was certainly a great atmosphere at the ground and sounded a lot louder than the 8000 that attended. The Dragons started the match looking like they might rack up 50 points but an inability to put the ball over the line and 2 quick tries to the Storm at the end of the first half left the Dragons wondering what might have been. A lack of creativity in attack combined with handling errors, penalties and a determined Storm defence meant the Dragons were to leave the Southern capital empty handed once again. Thanks again to all the MBDS members who turned up at the Depot, was great to catch up and attend a live game with everyone. The memory of last weeks loss can be quickly erased with victory on Sunday over arch rivals The Sharks. The local derby is always a game played with great passion and will only be more eventful than usual with ex Dragon Lance Thompson lining up against the club he once stated he would bleed for. Should be a great match. The MBDS screening of this match will be at the Grosvenor Hotel at 7:30pm Sunday night. This is the earliest we can get the screening as Channel Nine are covering the other match at 3pm Sunday. Why not head into the Grosvenor a bit early to have dinner and enjoy the live entertainment they have on Sunday afternoons? WHAT: Dragons v SharksWHEN: Sunday 7th May, 7:30pmWHERE: Grosvenor Hotel, 10 Brighton Rd East St Kilda GO THE DRAGONS!!
DRAGON Supporters, Whilst many here in Melbourne spent Anzac Day watching what they believe is the traditional footy clash set for that day, those of us in the know had the privilege of watching the mighty Dragons beat the Roosters in a tight and sometimes sloppy affair. A rather inexperienced Roosters competed fairly well on the day but in the end the Dragons experience and the skill of Matthew Heads kicking game got the Red and Whites home. With only a 4 day turnaround before our next match, the Dragons will have to be at their best to beat a highly competitive Storm side in Melbourne this Saturday. As this is our only match scheduled in Melbourne this year, it is a must to attend for all Dragons fans. There is a large contingent of Dragons fans coming down from Sydney for the match, which will help to provide a bit of the Oki/Win atmosphere at Olympic Park. For those of you who would like to sit with the Dragons fans, you will need to purchase tickets in Bay 36 in the EASTERN STAND($25) or as close to Bay 36 as possible as this is where the Sydney supporters and a vast majority of the Melbourne Supporters will be sitting. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketek outlets or at the gate on the day. Queues can often be lengthy at Olympic Park close to game time so try and pre purchase tickets where possible. The MBDS will also be meeting at the Depot Hotel 60 Swan St Richmond for a catch up before the game. We will be there from 2pm onwards so come in and say G'Day and soak up the atmosphere before we head to Olympic Park for the match at 7:30pm. MBDS Shirts - There are only a few MBDS shirts left at the subsidised price of $40 thanks to One Stop Home Loans. Many of you will have seen the shirts at events so far this year, and they look fantastic so please let us know asap if you want one. So just to recap.....
