DRAGONS Supporters, What a fantastic week of sport we had served up to us last week. The mighty Blues get up on Wednesday night with a field goal, the Socceroos head off to Germany with a win over European Champions Greece, and then the Dragons smack Newcastle on their home turf! After the drubbing the Knights gave us at WIN stadium earlier this year, the Dragons must have been fired up for revenge and that was exactly what they dished out. On the back of a fairly good kicking game and a number of Newcastle errors, the Dragons went to the break with a 20-6 lead and were never headed in the second half. It's great to see what this football team is capable when they are on their game. Let's hope we see plenty more of that sort of form this year. This week's match is another Sydney grudge match, against the Parramatta Eels on Friday night. This will be the Dragons first home at Oki Jubilee and they will be expecting a sellout crowd to cheer the team home. Our screening this week is back at SteakOut at Crown Casino at 8:30pm. After the problems with Telstra which Crown experienced for the State of Origin, all was resolved for the telecast last Friday at Crown which was fine. We have been assured by the management we won't have any issues going forward and we will continue to use Crown for the Friday night and Sunday Channel Nine matches. WHAT: Dragons v EelsWHEN: Friday 2nd June, 8:30pmWHERE: SteakOut Sports Bar, Level 1 Crown Casino GO THE DRAGONS!!
DRAGONS Supporters, After a win over the Warriors and the bye last weekend, the Dragons now join a group of 5 teams sitting on 12 points on the NRL ladder. With this group sitting behind 5 teams leading the race on 16 points, the NRL ladder is in a position rarely seen in the past. This week the Dragons travel to Energy Australia stadium in Newcastle on Friday night to take on the Number 1 team in the comp, Joey Johns' Knights. The MBDS screening of the match will be back at SteakOut at Crown Casino, with the feed from Channel Nine in Sydney at 8:30pm. Should be another classic encounter between the two clubs who have had some great matches over the years. Crown wish to apologise for the inconvenience they caused MBDS members last night when the state of origin feed from Sydney didn?t come through. They also want to make clear that this problem has been repaired and they have a back up plan in place as well. They have assured me that the Friday night and Sunday afternoon matches will continue as well as the remaining State of Origin series. DRAGONS Supporters,Rather than dwell on the past, let's look to the future...BIG Charlie Leano! 2 tries on debut for this future superstar for the Dragons were one of the only highlights in last weeks performance. Let's hope things turn around this week. Our screening this week will be back at the Grosvenor Hotel. DRAGONS Supporters, For those of us who only get to see the Dragons play live once a year, although we lost to Melbourne AGAIN, was certainly a great atmosphere at the ground and sounded a lot louder than the 8000 that attended. The Dragons started the match looking like they might rack up 50 points but an inability to put the ball over the line and 2 quick tries to the Storm at the end of the first half left the Dragons wondering what might have been. A lack of creativity in attack combined with handling errors, penalties and a determined Storm defence meant the Dragons were to leave the Southern capital empty handed once again. Thanks again to all the MBDS members who turned up at the Depot, was great to catch up and attend a live game with everyone. The memory of last weeks loss can be quickly erased with victory on Sunday over arch rivals The Sharks. The local derby is always a game played with great passion and will only be more eventful than usual with ex Dragon Lance Thompson lining up against the club he once stated he would bleed for. Should be a great match. The MBDS screening of this match will be at the Grosvenor Hotel at 7:30pm Sunday night. This is the earliest we can get the screening as Channel Nine are covering the other match at 3pm Sunday. Why not head into the Grosvenor a bit early to have dinner and enjoy the live entertainment they have on Sunday afternoons? DRAGON Supporters, Whilst many here in Melbourne spent Anzac Day watching what they believe is the traditional footy clash set for that day, those of us in the know had the privilege of watching the mighty Dragons beat the Roosters in a tight and sometimes sloppy affair. A rather inexperienced Roosters competed fairly well on the day but in the end the Dragons experience and the skill of Matthew Heads kicking game got the Red and Whites home. With only a 4 day turnaround before our next match, the Dragons will have to be at their best to beat a highly competitive Storm side in Melbourne this Saturday. As this is our only match scheduled in Melbourne this year, it is a must to attend for all Dragons fans. There is a large contingent of Dragons fans coming down from Sydney for the match, which will help to provide a bit of the Oki/Win atmosphere at Olympic Park. For those of you who would like to sit with the Dragons fans, you will need to purchase tickets in Bay 36 in the EASTERN STAND($25) or as close to Bay 36 as possible as this is where the Sydney supporters and a vast majority of the Melbourne Supporters will be sitting. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketek outlets or at the gate on the day. Queues can often be lengthy at Olympic Park close to game time so try and pre purchase tickets where possible. The MBDS will also be meeting at the Depot Hotel 60 Swan St Richmond for a catch up before the game. We will be there from 2pm onwards so come in and say G'Day and soak up the atmosphere before we head to Olympic Park for the match at 7:30pm. MBDS Shirts - There are only a few MBDS shirts left at the subsidised price of $40 thanks to One Stop Home Loans. Many of you will have seen the shirts at events so far this year, and they look fantastic so please let us know asap if you want one. So just to recap..... WHAT: Dragons v StormWHERE: Olympic Park, Swan St Richmond with pre match drinks and catch-up at The Depot Hotel, 60 Swan St RichmondWHEN: 2pm onwards at the Depot and 7:30pm kick off, Saturday 29th April 2006 Look forward to a huge Dragons turnout for this match. See you all there......
DRAGONS Supporters, Great to see the Dragons get back on track with a hard fought win over Manly last Saturday. They certainly looked sharp with Matthew Head back at halfback, and should continue to play well while he is on the field. So onto next week and the big Anzac Day clash with the Roosters. This game has become a great tradition, and is something all Dragons fans look forward to. It has also become one of the MBDS' biggest days of the year, and we hope to continue that tradition this year. In a first for an MBDS event our sponsor ONESTOP home loans will be putting money behind the bar for MBDS members!! We thank ONESTOP for this generous gesture and hope you can all get along to enjoy the free pots of beer, or glasses of house wine. We will also have the official MBDS Shirts at the game for people to try on and place orders with George. Some of you may have seen George "modeling" the shirt at previous events, and they have come up really well. We have a variety of sizes to try on the day so speak to George, Paul R or Paul B for further information. Attached is a photo of the MBDS top Details for this week are as follows: WHERE: Grosvenor Hotel, 10 Brighton Road East St KildaWHEN: ANZAC DAY, 25th April 2pm onwards (Free drinks from 2:30pm, kick off at 3pm)WHAT: Dragons v Roosters The Grosvenor will also have the Collingwood v Essendon game in the main bar so bring your friends along for a MASSIVE AFTERNOON OF FOOTBALL. We also have the annual Storm v Dragons game coming up on Saturday 29th April. Details of the MBDS event will be coming out next week..... GO THE DRAGONS!!
DRAGONS Supporters, After a Round 5 flogging most of us would rather forget, this week the Dragons head to "Fortress" Brookvale to take on the Sea Eagles. The 2006 NRL premiership is as close as we have seen in many years, and this match will be another tough game against a Manly side who are starting to play their way into some good form. Manly have proven fairly hard to beat at Brookvale over the past few years and the Dragons will need to have a much higher level of commitment and a tougher mental attitude to take the points in this one. With Shaun Timmins and Wes "The Fijian Flyer" Naiqama both returning from injury the Dragons are nearing a full strength side and will give a good account of themselves. The MBDS screening this week will once again be at the Grosvenor Hotel at East St Kilda. The screening will be held in the Sports Bar at 5:30pm Saturday on Fox Sports. Hope to see a big crowd there to catch all the action live! What: Dragons v Sea EaglesWhen: Saturday 15th April, 5:30pmWhere: Grosvenor Hotel 10 Brighton Road East St Kilda ANZAC DAY Just to let you all know, we have also booked the Grosvenor for the annual Anzac Day clash between the Dragons and the Roosters. Further details will be coming in the following weeks but put it in your diary now as this will be a cracker of a game and we expect a good crowd at the Grosvenor for the match. Due to the importance of this match, our new sponsor OneStop Home Loans will be putting money on the bar which is a first for MBDS so come along and enjoy the day. Thanks to OneStop for their support!
DRAGONS Supporters, Round 4 saw the Dragons notch up their second win of the 2006 season, holding out a determined and experienced Brisbane Broncos outfit at WIN Stadium. Matches between these two teams always seem to produce something special (who could forget Riddell's penalty from the sideline at ANZ) and this was no exception. The Dragons showed patience in the match and plenty of heart in defence to take the two points. This weeks match will be another tough encounter, with the Dragons taking on Newcastle at WIN Stadium. Without Andrew Johns last week the Knights went down to the NZ Warriors, but his probable return this week will make for a stronger Knights team. Will be a good test for the Dragons who are slowly starting to show some signs of cohesion in attack, and grit in defence. Our screening this week will be held at The Grosvenor Hotel at East St Kilda. With kick off scheduled for 7:30, why not take the opportunity to head in early for dinner in the restaurant, or a few drinks in the bar before the game starts? We will have the sports bar sectioned off for the screening. DRAGONS Supporters,Round 3 saw the Dragons return to form with a convincing 44-14 victory overthe Rabbitohs to notch up their first win of the 2006 season. The return ofTrent Barrett made a big difference to the structure in attack and MarkGasnier crossed for 3 tries to continue his good form of recent weeks. Thisweek will be a tough match as the Dragons take on the Brisbane Broncos in aSunday Blockbuster at WIN Stadium. This week's event for the MBDS will beheld at The Pub at Crown Casino, with coverage and audio kicking off at 4pm.With both sides starting to show glimpses of the potential expected of themin the 2006 season this will undoubtedly be a spirited game. Saints welcomeback Ben Creagh and Matt Cooper and will give a good account of themselveson their home ground. AFTER the heartbreaking loss last week in Golden Point extra time against the Panthers, this week the Dragons back up against Russells Rabbitoh's on Sunday. The Dragons still have a number of players out with injury, but will welcome Trent Barrett back with open arms as his leadership and passing game were both sorely missed last week. After losing the Charity Shield the team should be fired up to knock off the Rabbitoh's and register their first win of the season. This weeks match will be shown at The Grosvenor Hotel at East St Kilda at 2:30. With the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony being held that night after the match, we would like to invite all and sundry to also come into The Beach at The Arts Centre to watch the Closing Ceremony on the big screen. This is a great place to soak up the atmosphere of the final night of the Games, and the tram from the Grosvenor takes you straight up St Kilda Rd to the Arts Centre!
