A surprise form reversal has seen the Canberra Raiders take a comfortable 36-20 win over the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday in front of 10,000 fans.
It wasn't all bad for the Titans - after conceding the opening try to Brenko Lee for the Raiders, the hosts clawed back two of their own through James Roberts and Kalifa Faifai Loa in the Robina afternoon sun to lead 10-6 after twenty-five minutes.
Anthony Milford showed quickly why the Titans' neighbours in Brisbane were so keen on him coming to the club next season with a scintillating display - having helped set up Lee's try to open the match, "Milf" scored one of his own after 32 minutes to send his side in front - a further penalty goal and a try to Jarrod Croker just before the break saw the visitors take a 20-10 lead into 'oranges'.
The second half started very nervously for both sides - the scorers going untroubled until the 56th minute when Kevin Gordon narrowed the gap for the Gold Coast. Six points would be as close as they got - Canberra hit the gas in the final twelve minutes, piling on three tries to one for a final scoreline of 36-20. Milford grabbed his second in this time, with Josh McCrone and Shaun Fensom also adding their names to the scoresheet.
Another disappointing home performance for the Titans was capped by a consolation try to Faifai Loa in the final moments, but it was to little avail as the Gold Coast are now 2 wins and 7 losses at home, and have just one win since Round 9. They head to an emotional Hunter Stadium next Sunday to face the Knights in Rise for Alex round, while the Raiders have a tough assignment to acquire back to back wins - they're off to AAMI Park for a date with Melbourne on Saturday evening.
