Roosters break losing streak with dominant win over Wests Tigers

Three tries from winger Daniel Tupou has seen the Sydney Roosters run out 36-4 winners over the Wests Tigers in front of 14,366 fans at Allianz Stadium.

Having lost their past four matches in close encounters, the Roosters were desperate to win against the Tigers, fresh from a convincing last-start victory.

While the Roosters were able to open the scoring in the 4th minute through Daniel Tupou, the Tigers held their own for the opening 25 minutes, going set-for-set with their more fancied opponents.

Eventually the Roosters class shone through, as a Mitchell Pearce inspired seven-minute period produced three tries to Sio Siua Taukeiaho (25 min), Boyd Cordner (28 min) and Daniel Tupou (32 min) to blow the scoreline out to 22-0 at the break.

While the Tigers were able to compete with the Roosters in the second half, their inexperience cost them dearly as Tupou (63 min) collected his third try before Man of the Match Mitchell Pearce raced 50 metres following a lost ball from Luke Brooks to take the score out to 36-0 with ten minutes remaining.

Finally the Tigers opened their account three minutes from the end through Dene Halatau, who scored his first try for the joint venture since 2009.

While the Tigers competed hard throughout the match, the class of the Roosters proved the difference as they ran out convincing winners 36-4.

For the Roosters, a terrific performance from Mitchell Pearce saw the former NSW halfback set up two tries, along with crossing for one himself in a dominant performance which prevented the Tigers from making in-roads due to his kicking game.

For the Tigers, James Tedesco proved to benefit from his experience with the City Origin team, while Aaron Woods, Robbie Farah and Martin Taupau tried their best up front, but ultimately were outclassed by the Roosters.

Next week the Roosters will travel to ANZ Stadium to take on the Bulldogs in what looms as a major game for both sides which may determine who earns a spot in the NSW side, while the Tigers will travel to Hunter Stadium to take on the Newcastle Knights on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be televised live on Channel 9.
