Titans v Warriors preview

Gold Coast Titans v New Zealand Warriors
Cbus Super Stadium - Saturday 5:30pm

Who will come out on top in a battle between two teams who have struggled to find consistency?

Both the Titans and the Warriors have struggled to string together wins so far this season, but both sit on 14 points after 14 rounds of the competition. The NRL Ladder is currently a mass of congestion, with teams from 7th to 12th all sitting on 14 points. The Titans sit at the right end of that scale, just inside the top 8 on -25 f/a, with the Warriors just outside the top 8 on -31 f/a.

With Nate Myles named to back up from Origin tonight, Eddy Pettybourne will move to lock. Kierran Moseley is out after injuring his knee in last weekend's win over the Bulldogs, with Daniel Mortimer again named at hooker - although the Titans have just brought in Chad Redman from the Newcastle Knights to help boost their injury ravaged hooker stocks. Dave Taylor has been named as 18th man.

Similarly, the Warriors have named Jacob Lillyman and Ryan Hoffman to back up from Origin, forcing Albert Vete to 18th man. Injury to Sam Lisone means Raymond Faitala-Mariner joins the Warriors bench, along with Siliva Havili replacing Jonathan Wright.

The Titans have struggled with their defence so far in 2015, conceding just under 20 points per game - the third worst in the league. They've also been weak at home, winning only 2 of their games at Cbus Super Stadium. They do come into this game off the back of a good win against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs last weekend.

The Warriors will be looking for a win to break a string of back-to-back losses against the Rabbitohs and the Roosters, and are currently favourites for the win despite not having the home advantage.

Last meeting: Round 8 2015 - New Zealand Warriors 28 Gold Coast Titans 32

Who to watch: The battle out wide will be interesting in this game. The Titans outside backs have traditionally based their game on speed and agility, especially with the inclusion of James Roberts and Kevin Gordon. Playing halfback at times for the Titans is as simple as shoveling good early ball to the speedsters, and watching them create opportunities. The Titans looked on the ropes last weekend against the Bulldogs, but fought their way forward once Roberts started getting good, early ball.

On the other hand, the Warriors could not be more different. Solomone Kata, Konrad Hurrell and Manu Vatuvei's play power games, using their impressive strength, size and power to muscle their way over the top of their opponents. It's a plan that has worked for them so far in 2015, with both Vatuvei and Kata prolific in their tryscoring.

The favourite: Frankly, there isn't one. The punters are absolutely split on the result of this game, with the majority of betting markets having the Titans and Warriors on equal money to take the win. Anthony Don for first try scores looks almost a sure thing.

My tip: It's a difficult one to split, as the result could go either way - but I'm tipping the Warriors by 8.
