Bulldogs v Broncos preview

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs v Brisbane Broncos
ANZ Stadium - Saturday 7:30pm

In what is shaping as one of the games of the season, we have two teams in form hoping to continue their charge towards September. Both sides have a large origin contingent backing up from Wednesday Night's game and I believe this will no doubt affect both sides in the latter part of the match.

Canterbury are flying high at the moment with just one defeat in their past 5 and moving their way up to 8th on the ladder. The spark that Josh Reynolds's is providing off the bench coupled with the consistent play of Moses Mbye on the back of one of the biggest forward packs in the competition has laid a great platform for the Bulldogs. They welcome back all their origin stars unscathed although with a battered and bruised ego. One man that will want a 2nd chance at those Brisbane forwards is David Klemmer who was quite in Wednesday's game and will be chomping at the bit to get at the likes of Corey Parker and Sam Thaiday.

A win for Canterbury here could propel them into the top 4, whilst a defeat could see them bounce their way out of the top 8. They currently sit locked with no less than 4 other teams on 20 competition points.

I don't think the Broncos are exactly a surprise packet in season 2015, but they have certainly exceeded a lot of "experts" expectations of them so far. Wayne Bennett is again proving to everyone in the NRL what a sharp mind he has and why he has been so successful over more than 3 decades in coaching. Brisbane currently sit atop the NRL ladder with 28 points, all but guaranteed of a finals place and a very good chance of taking out the Minor Premiership. One of the most valuable assets for Brisbane this year has been their squad depth. With origin taking it's toll on a lot of their starters, the likes of Mitchell Dodds, Jarrod Wallace and Corey Oates has seen almost the same impact in games as their origin stars would give. This is one of the man reasons that Brisbane have been so sharp over the last 6 weeks. In team changes, Justin Hodges is rested after he completed his last game in State Of Origin, Jordan Kahu shifts to the centres and Daniel Vidot takes his place on the wing. The rest of Brisbane's origin contingent will play up although may see reduced playing time.

Last meeting: Round 22 2014 - Brisbane Broncos 41 Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 10

Brisbane annihilated the Dogs in round 22 last year and have won the past three (although two of these games have been in Brisbane). The Dogs last win came in round 11, 2013 (24-14). Brisbane lead the all time meetings 26-19 with 1 draw. At ANZ Stadium they've met 12 times with both clubs recording 6 wins each.

Who to watch: Canterbury need to make a good start in this clash. Quick starts have been the nucleus to their success over the past month and a half. I'm looking for some huge impact from Brett Morris from fullback. Morris is a huge talent and finds his way to the try line a freakish amount. Since moving to fullback he has added a lot of spark to the Bulldogs attack with his unqiue running style and express pace. If Canterbury want to win this game, "B-Moz" needs to have a blinder.

For the visitors I've been very impressed by the play of Ben Hunt this season. Whilst his partner in crime Anthony Milford might get more of the plaudits from fans and media alike with his exciting and ab lib play, the level headiness of Hunt is a real blessing to this Broncos side. Hunt's kicking game as well as his ability to take on the line and bust through tackles is a real hallmark of the player that he has become over the past few seasons. His combination not only with Milford, which has blossomed as the season has progressed but also with Darius Boyd and Jack Reed is a real trade mark of this Broncos left side attack. Look for him to control everything come Saturday.

The favourite: Just due to the sheer weight of their form, Brisbane have their noses In front in this game.

My tip: Hard to tip someone here, but unfortunately League Unlimited wont let me give the politician answer and I'm going to go with Brisbane. They have so much momentum and Wayne Bennett has them believing in each other and in themselves.
Canterbury will make it really tough for them and have been playing superbly of late-it will all come down to the starts that each side make and the battle of the forwards in the first 15 minutes. Broncos by 1 in Golden Point!
