Jamie Lyon claimed a hat-trick as St Helens survived a scare to overcome battling Salford 22-33.

The Reds had led for most of the game at The Willows only to tire late on and allow Saints to win their third successive game under new coach Daniel Anderson.

Tim Hartley crossed twice and Stuart Littler and Chris Charles also touched down as Salford looked to end a six-game losing run. But Saints finished strongly with Jon Wilkin, Paul Wellens and Sean Long also on the scoresheet.
