Round 13 - 11/08/2007
Prop Logan Wright has led a dominant Richmond forward pack to an all important win over Marist 26-14 at Grey Lynn Park. Playing on the new sand slick field, Marist skipped away to an early two try lead in the first 20 minutes. Saints prop Fawcett Aumua and halfback Eddie Leavai were to cause much of the damage. But it was Richmond who persevered and bounced back with tries to Wright, halfback Aaron Nootai and centre Francis Ledger who scored two. Simon Ieremia kicked four goals, including two superb sideline efforts in the win. An ill disciplined second half has cost the Otahuhu Leopards dearly in their clash with the Papakura Sea Eagles. Leading 10-8 at the split, the Leopards fell apart in the second spell and were defeated 26-14 by Papakura. The result leaves them squandering in seventh position but just one point off the top five. Sunita Laiseni and Peter Bell grabbed second half tries for the Sea Eagles who were the better tempered of the two sides. Second rower Sean Clarke had an outstanding game and halfback Henry Dunn was another to impress. After playing for the Counties Manukau Jetz just an hour before the Manurewa game, prop Lucas Heta backed up and played a starring role in the Marlins 42-14 demolition of the Te Atatu Roosters. Heta looked as fresh as ever and led the metres for the Marlins forwards. Young Graham Woodhouse also featured prominently. Woodhouse scored a hatrick of tries including two 80 metre runaways. The Glenora Bears are one step closer to the playoffs after they easily defeated East Coast Bays 56-10. The Barracudas struggled with several top line players out with injuries. The Bears controlled the match comfortably and led at the split 22-6. Steve Carroll, Thomas Tuumaga, and Aaron Booth all grabbed doubles for the home side.
A last second try to Mount Albert has inched them home against Papatoetoe 22-19 at Kohoura Park. The Panthers were agonisingly close to their best win of the season but were unable to seal the win. Papatoetoe scored three tries through Sam Pritchard, Seukula Tukuniu and Ati Sua. Amos Nosa kicked all three conversions and nailed a field goal to lead 19-18 before the Lions spoiled the party with a late try. Otara fullback Desmond Chadwick scored two sensational tries in the Scorpions18-12 win over the Howick Hornets. Chadwick was very dangerous from the back and took several chances to break the line. Joel Iliau also scored for the Scorpions with brother Sam Iliau kicking all three goals. A welcome return for some top class Bartercard players has seen Mangere beat Bay Roskill 60-10 in a one sided game at Walter Massey. The Hawks have timed their run perfectly and are now looking the major threat to Minor Premiership winners Northcote. The Tigers recorded a comfortable 54-12 win over Pakuranga. Ray Neho and Cameron Rameka both scored doubles for the visitors.
At just 16 years of age winger Nathan Ash had the best possible debut for the Hibiscus Coast Raiders in their win over Rodney. Ash scored five tries for the Raiders in their 102-12 annihilation of the Rams at Stanmore Bay. The Raiders showed what they
