Bowen close to selection.

North Queensland Cowboys fullback Matt Bowen is on the brink of being selected for his first test debut.

Bowen who had a fantastic year this year with the Cowboys and played for QLD during the State Of Origin squad was rewarded with a selection in the Australia squad.

The spot opened for Matt Bowen after prop Jason Ryles pulled a hamstring at training on the weekend.

Experts thought that Mark O'Meley would make his test debut, which many have been calling for since the Tri-Nations begun in Auckland in October, but again he may miss out.

Wayne Bennett has been critised but he is going to stand by his selections.

Bennett said "We haven't made a decision about Mark," "It's whether we put a back in there or not to give us a little bit more attack late in the game."

O'Meley said he would wait and see what happened, but would love to make his debut as his family is over in England at the moment

"It would mean a lot more to me with family over here to make my debut,"

"But I'll sit back and see what the outcome is during the week." The Great Britain Vs Australia Test Match is on Channel Nine Sunday morning with kick off at 5.15am AEDT.
