Broncos outgun
gutsy Panthers

The Brisbane Broncos have won a hard fought match against a gutsy Penrith Panthers side tonight in front of 10,099 fans at Penrith Football Stadium on what was a very chilly Saturday evening.

Penrith were first out of the blocks with a try to Rhys Wesser and the Panthers were playing with supreme confidence with players hitting the ball at pace but it wasn't enough to get them over the line against a determined Brisbane side, who had three players backing up from last nights test against Great Britain.

The Broncos scored the next three tries(Walker 14th min, Langer 28th min, Walker 31st min) to take a 16-4 lead into the halftime break.

Penrith were first to score after the break with a fine leaping effort from gun rookie, Luke Lewis to reduce the deficit to 16-8 and the Panthers were still very much in the game.

It wasn't until the 66th minute when the Broncos put the issue beyond doubt with a try Chris Walker that gave him a hat trick for the night. His try extended the lead from 26-14 to 32-14 and only pride was left to play for with the Panthers never giving in and gave their all in an effort their fans can well be pleased with.

Best for the Broncos were Alan Langer and Darren Lockyer while for Penrith, Craig Gower had an excellent game in a beaten side as the Panthers show glimpses of what they are capable of.
