Bye Bye Braith if Williams is
re-signed ?

Former Kangaroo five-eighth Braith Anasta is the likely casualty as the premiership-winning Bulldogs struggle to keep their National Rugby League squad intact after boosting the contract of Kiwis sensation Sonny Bill Williams.

The 19-year-old has received an offer from the club worth about $A350,000 - a massive increase on his existing contract of $A80,000, which expires at the end of this season.

In order to retain Williams and improve the contracts of other squad members such as Willie Mason, management must make cuts elsewhere and it seems Anasta, a former Kangaroos tourist and New South Wales five-eighth, is the likely fall guy.

Anasta has told the club he wants to stay but it is understood his new offer is significantly less than the $A400,000 per season he commanded as a representative player.

There are suggestions Williams may even re-sign by the end of this week, with his manager Gavin Orr confirming more talks with Bulldogs' chief executive Malcolm Noad this week.

Both parties would prefer the deal be settled before the Bulldogs open the defence of their crown against St George Illawarra on Friday week.

Williams is seeking a three-year deal and if terms cannot be reached there will be no shortage of suitors when the anti-tampering deadline expires on June 30.
