Carnegie Challenge Cup Round 5 Review

There were no real shocks in the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

In the tie of the round Wigan got one step nearer Wembley with a 22-18 win at Leeds. Ex-St George Illawarra stand off, Trent Barrett was the man of the match as the Warriors defence held the Rhinos out in the last quarter of the game, to complete a second successive win at Headingley Carnegie Stadium this season.

Two Lesley Vainikolo tries helped Bradford to defeat Wakefield at a wet Belle Vue. Elsewhere form side Huddersfield Giants easily disposed of Salford City Reds, at a muddy Willows.

The rest of ties where all straightforward for the Super League clubs, except at Whitehaven, who put up a brave performance against French outfit Catalans Dragons by only loosing by 10 points.

The draw for the quarter Final will take place on Tuesday afternoon.
