Carnegie Nines Review

Huddersfield Giants won the inaugural Carnegie Floodlit Nines with a 20-4 win over Challenge Cup finalists Hull FC at Headingley Carnegie on Wednesday night.

Full-back Leroy Cudjoe was Huddersfield star player by scoring a hat-trick in the final and he went to win the player of the tournament.

Second rower Stuart Jones was Huddersfield's other try-scorer in the final, while Ashley Thackeray got the Black and Whites only try in front of a crowd of 2,232.

The Giants, who included 10 first-team players in their 15-man squad, overwhelmed Leeds 32-4 in the first round and beat Hull KR 22-6 in the semi-finals while Hull FC gained a 16-10 win over Wakefield to book their place in the final.

Rugby union sevens legend Waisale Serevi played for Fiji UK team who went down 22-10 in the first round to Wakefield while the British Army lost 24-14 to Hull FC in the other first round game.
