Carney ruled out of Challenge Cup
Final

The Wigan club today announced that Brian Carney has met with a severe setback in his efforts to recover from a broken ankle.

Head Coach Mike Gregory said,

"Brian had been making tremendous progress and we were even hoping that he had an outside chance of making the Challenge Cup Final. An x-ray today, however, has revealed that the bone has not reformed and he is likely to need another operation. He could be out for a further three months."

Gregory continued,

"It goes without saying that we are disappointed for Brian, although there is still a chance that David Hodgson might soon make a comeback. We are also waiting for Martin Aspinwall who has yet to recover from his hamstring problem. We will know a lot more early next week."
