Carroll free to tackle the Blues

Queensland lock Tonie Carroll has been cleared to play in the opening State of Origin match against New South Wales after escaping a National Rugby League suspension. Carroll pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw on Newcastle prop Josh Perry in Brisbane's 32-22 loss at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

But the 26-year old has had the NRL judiciary's seven-year incident-free discount applied to his charge following confirmation from Leeds of a clean playing record during his two seasons in the English Super League.
