Clubs agree
cap needs to rise

Club chief executives have agreed in principle to an increase in the salary cap at a meeting at NRL headquarters today.

While no exact figures regarding an increase have been released, a majority of CEOs voted that the cap increase was necessary for the code. Many clubs were originally unhappy at the prospect of a cap rise, but it now appears that the clubs are willing to investigate changes to the cap limit after recent relaxation of state pokie tax laws.

Any further details of the increase won't be known until tomorrow night when the league formally meets with the Rugby League Players' Association.
