Connolly Doubtful Starter In 2nd
Test

Gary Connolly is Great Britain's only injury concern ahead of Saturday's second Test against Australia in Hull.

The Leeds centre came off with a knee injury during his side's 22-18 defeat at Wigan on Saturday and will be nursed through the training sessions until later in the week.

Paul Sculthorpe and Andy Farrell reported no after-effects from the game when the squad went back into camp in Manchester.

"Gary Connolly has a slight knee problem which means he might find it difficult to train," said coach David Waite.

"We'll re-assess that and make contingency plans should he not be available."

But Britain will almost certainly change their goalkicker, with Sean Long admitting he does not want the job.

The St Helens scrum-half was handed the role ahead of Farrell but missed with his first two shots at goal and eventually handed the job to substitute Paul Deacon.

"It's added pressure on you," he said. "Sometimes it's something you don't need, when you are kicking a goal thinking that your country is relying on you.

"If I'm selected and get the job, I'll probably have a bash at it but I'm not putting my hand up."

Waite said: "We've got a number of good kickers and Sean is one of them. We'll see what happens in the wash-out when the team is selected."

Farrell, who said his knee injury is no longer an impediment to his goalkicking, added: "There's Sean, Deacs and myself who do kick and there's not much between all three."
