Dallas Takes Pay Cut To Stay With
Team

Australian winger Brett Dallas has agreed to take a pay cut to stay at Wigan.

He is out of contract after four years at the JJB Stadium and has attracted interest from a string of NRL clubs, but has now agreed a new 12-month deal.

New Zealand Test prop Craig Smith has also accepted a reduced contract as the Warriors continue to wrestle with the constraints of the salary cap.

But Adrian Lam is facing an uncertain future after undergoing a knee reconstruction.

Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "I think Brett is staying for another year. I shook hands with him before the Grand Final but his manager, Sam Ayoub, was away so he couldn't sign the contract. Sam's back now so hopefully it can be sorted out.

"Brett enjoys it in England and he loves Wigan. I've had to explain to him that because of the salary cap he'd have to accept a lower contract and he and Craig Smith have done that."

Lindsay, meanwhile, said he will wait for a detailed medical report before deciding whether the 33-year-old Lam has a future at the club.

Out-of-contract Lam has undergone major knee surgery which could keep him sidelined for up to a year.

The former Queensland captain had agreed but not signed a new one-year deal for 2004 before suffering the injury and Lindsay admitted: "It could be career-threatening.

"Adrian's very upset about it and it's a very unlucky time in his career for him to suffer such a dreadful injury. We'll wait until we get a full medical report before deciding what's next."

In other news Widnes have confirmed the signing of Australian half-back Jason Ferris.

The Vikings had difficulties in obtaining a work permit for the 27-year-old Manly Warringah player.
