Davico hoping for a start

Canberra Raiders prop Luke Davico has renewed his passport in the belief he will be making a long-awaited return from injury in Sunday's NRL visit to the New Zealand Warriors.

The frontrower got a new passport on Monday, though his inclusion in the travelling party will only be confirmed after training tomorrow.

The 31-year-old has not played since injuring his ribs during the City v Country Origin match in early May, despite being named in the starting line-up for the past two weeks.

He was named on a five-man bench, with one to drop out before the team leaves for Auckland on Friday.

"I trained well and the ribs didn't give me any trouble so that was really pleasing," Davico said.

"I renewed my passport the other day so hopefully that's a good sign as well."

Davico has had a frustrating time on the sidelines since the injury occurred, watching the Raiders suffer three consecutive losses before last week's 48-22 victory over the Manly Sea Eagles.

He had been hopeful of an early return but when informed last week that his ribs were still "floating", Davico opted for another week off.

"It's really something I don't want to rush, that would just be stupid," he said.

Davico completed a physical training session in Canberra yesterday and was happy with the way his ribs handled it.

Coach Matt Elliott said he was still unsure whether Davico would make the trip to New Zealand but indicated if he did the 166-game veteran would start.
