Dobek Reboots Featherstone Rovers

DOBEK REBOOTS ROVERS FOR 2011
The wheels haven't come off Rovers' ladies burgeoning first season at the Bigfellas, but the track has been frozen big time. Loss of focus, and the deterioration in team ethic have given head coach Brenda Dobek and her players a lot to think about as Brenda pointed out;
The freeze up has been a pain. We were going really well, and now we seem to have been existing in some kind of frozen sporting wasteland for what seems an ice age. Even now that the snow and ice have gone for the time being we can't get a game because the cup competition means that we are waiting on the results of other games to see who we play next.
Dobek is an experienced streetwise coach, but she's also been able to use the professional vibe of being part of the Featherstone Rovers set up provides amongst other advantages, as she continued;
It has been difficult keeping together as a group, the weather has meant that players who have jobs and live a little further afield haven't been able to attend sessions. On the other hand a lot of us are part of the England set up, so there's no weakening of that special connection between us all.
We are Featherstone Rovers, and that means that we have picked up on the professional attitude of the rest of the club and that means a lot. When we were first established here, I said that we had the coaching qualifications amongst us, the desire and the experience to think seriously about developing the women's game in the area. Some schools have girls playing Rugby League and we want to support that and develop it with the support of Ryan Sheridan and his community team. There are far more young women out there who could enjoy playing the game but who aren't. We want to engage with these people and get them involved. One of the things that concerns me is what happens to young women when they have played Rugby League at school or college. Too many of them disappear for some reason. We want to do something about that, and it will be part of the work we want to do in schools-you've enjoyed playing, you're leaving school, carry on playing with us once you've left.
