Dragons sign rising Knights star

Knights utility Michael Ennis today agreed to terms with the St.George Bank Dragons for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Ennis, 20, has recently been starting at five-eighth in the Knights first-grade side, but his preference is hooker. The Coffs Harbour-born Ennis, who made his NRL debut last year and has played 13 NRL games this season, played hooker for the NSW U19s and junior Kanagaroos last year. "With Mark Riddell going, there was an opportunity to push for a regular first grade spot at hooker (with the Dragons)," Ennis said. "As much as I enjoy playing five-eighth, my preference is hooker. "I was choosing between the Broncos and the Dragons. The Dragons young forward pack and the opportunity to play around people like Trent Barrett, Matt Cooper and Mark Gasnier was a deciding factor. It's a bit similar to playing with Andrew Johns. "I'm really looking forward to spending time training and playing with all the Origin blokes and their forward pack - being a hooker, it's pretty special."
