Eels claim the Dogs scalp once again

The match was billed as the first time the Eels and Bulldogs meet on the field since the memorable Preliminary Final of 2009. Nothing changed in the end as the Eels claimed another win, 26-10 over the Bulldogs.

The only thing that will concern the Eels is a report against prop Fuifui Moimoi, but on the field everything went right for the Blue and Gold tonight, scoring five tries to two.

For the majority of the first half, the two sides put in a massive arm wrestle. On several occasions the kickers went high for bombs, but both sides put up great defensive efforts to diffuse the chances their opponents created.

It took more than twenty minutes for someone to crack and ironically, it was a bomb. Inu took the ball and fell over the line to open the scoring. Moments later a piece of individual brilliance from Luke Burt set up the Eels second try. Burt ran from dummy-half, grubbered, ran around two defenders and score a memorable try. His goalkicking didn't help, the Eels still only holding an 8-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs went on the attack soon after, several times. The Eels defence did very well to hold on. That 8-0 scoreline became the halftime score. It wasn't long into the second half when the Eels struck again, a quick pass from Jarryd Hayne sending Joel Reddy over the tryline.

The Bulldogs finally struck with a little bit of luck, with a Jarryd Hayne kick charged at, Bryson Goodwin the only one available to take the ball, scoring an easy try.

From there on the Eels resumed the natural flow. Kris Keating sent Hayne into plenty of open space to score his first try of the season. A piece of power saw Jamal Idris set the Bulldogs some nice field position, and a grubber sent Junior Tia-Kalifi over for his first try in Bulldogs colours.

The Eels had the last laugh though, Keating over the line in the dying moments to seal up the 26-10 scoreline. The Eels with their third straight victory.
