Eels terminate Jamil Hopoate's contract

The Parramatta Eels have today decided to terminate the contract of Jamil Hopoate.

A full investigation into his behaviour over the weekend has revealed that he left the premises of a Rookie Camp in Sydney despite being given specific instructions on more than one occasion not to do so. Furthermore, he did not attend formal presentations scheduled at the camp.

Jamil was one of 16 privileged players from the Eels invited to take part in the camp which is designed to give an insight into what is takes to become an NRL player.

CEO Ken Edwards said, "Unfortunately Jamil has failed to respond to on-going support, tutoring and mentoring from our dedicated coaching staff as well as our Welfare and Education Department.

While the club regrets losing such a talented player, the club has made it very clear that we expect high standards of behaviour across all grades.

All who play for the Parramatta Eels need to understand that we are focused on and committed to recruiting players who put the team first. We are committed to educating our players and fostering a culture that exemplifies the NRL's core values of respect, excellence, inclusiveness, courage and teamwork.

Parramatta has offered to provide on-going support and counselling to Jamil.
