Ennis inspired Broncos roll Knights at home

Brisbane Broncos have beaten Newcastle Knights 34-22 at EnergyAustralia Stadium today in front of a strong local crowd.

Hooker Michael Ennis had his best game for the club with a personal tally of 22 points just shy of the club record of 26 held by former winger Lote Tuqiri.

The game began with a competitive tone which saw three tries in the first 20 minutes. After his first break of the day Ennis set up Carroll for the line who landed just short. The next play went wide to Hodges to score.

Newcastle returned fire with back-to-back tries, the first to Kurt Gidley who drifted wide and beat three to score in the corner. This was followed up by a dubious grounding to Cory Paterson but the end result was an 8-6 lead to the Knights.

Brisbane then kicked it up a gear with Ennis scoring two tries and kicking a penalty goal to take the score to 20-8. Some of the sturdy hooker
