Gower loses "get out" clause

Penrith skipper Craig Gower has agreed to remove a controversial get out clause from his contract in a welcome boost for the revitalised National Rugby League club.

Gower has confirmed he wants to play out his career with the Panthers and will begin extended contract talks next week. The Penrith playmaker added the clause when he signed a four-year contract in 2001, sparking speculation that he would leave.

The clause meant Gower could have left at the end of this season if he wasn't happy with its player recruitment. The Panthers will look to extend their run of three straight wins when they host St George Illawarra at Penrith Stadium on Sunday.
