Harrigan handed whistle for Origin

Leading referee Bill Harrigan has been handed the whistle for Wednesday nights opening match of this years State of Origin series in front of an expected crowd of 60,000 people at Stadium Australia.

Harrigan will be controlling his 15th Origin match and is by far the leading referee in the NRL while the video ref duties have gone to Chris Ward. Harrigan refereed every game of last years series and is the only referee to send a player off in Origin football. Harrigan made history when he controversialy sent Queensland captain Gorden Tallis from the field in 2000 for calling him a cheat.
