Signings

The South Sydney Rabbitohs has today announced the signing of Shannon Hegarty to a three-year contract.

Hegarty, 25, is an international class Centre who represented Australia and Queensland in 2003, as well as winning the Telstra Premiership with the Sydney Roosters in 2002 and played in the 2003 Grand Final with the Roosters against the Penrith Panthers.

Hegarty has played three State of Origin matches for the Maroons and three tests for Australia, touring at the end of last season with the Kangaroos to Great Britain.

Hegarty is a seasoned first grader, playing 100 First Grade games with the Roosters since 1999, scoring 50 tries.

?Shannon is a very talented footballer and is a group leader which is the type of player we want to attract to Souths,? South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson said today.

?He is a quality human being and will be taking a leadership role both on and off the field for the South Sydney Club over the next three seasons.

?He is a young man with a wealth of experience and a bright future in front of him and we are delighted he will be in red and green for the next three years.?

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have also announced the signing of front row forward Scott Logan from English Club Hull for the remainder of 2004 and the 2005 season.

Logan, 26, is a 115kg prop who has been playing with Hull since 2002, prior to which he played with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL.

Logan was selected in the Queensland State of Origin squad while playing with the Roosters and is looking for an opportunity to re-establish himself in the National Rugby League.

?Scott is a quality player and playing with South Sydney is the opportunity he is looking for in the NRL,? South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson said.

As well, South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced the signing of a number of talented local juniors to contracts for the following two seasons.

John Sutton, Manase Manuokafoa and Roy Bell have all been secured for two seasons with Chris Enahoro signing on for one year to remain with the South Sydney Football Club after working their way up through the Souths Juniors ranks.

These signings demonstrate the confidence the senior club has in the development of its local juniors.

?It is exciting times for Souths and it is a sign of things to come,? South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson said.

?We have a number of very talented local products coming up through the grades and we are very confident that these players will be an integral part of the senior squad next season.

?Souths have always produced great junior talent and it is wonderful to see these juniors sign on to continue to play with the Rabbitohs in 2005 and 2006.?
